The event was inaugurated by CAPLA Dean Nancy Pollock-Ellwand who highlighted that values of the new CAPLA Strategic Plan like interdisciplinarity and collaboration were manifest at the Festival. Miguel Contreras, Founder of Arquitectura Film Festival Santiago Chile, also spoke at the inauguration, highlighting the importance of placing CAPLA and the city of Tucson in the world-wide context of cities reflecting about architecture through the language of film. Finally, Eduardo Guerrero, Director of the Architecture Film Festival Tucson 2019, acknowledged all the student volunteers, the guests from different UA colleges, and the 25 sponsors of the festival, including
